When to Book a Newborn Session?
When Should We Schedule Our Newborn Session To Capture Them Perfectly…

Why The First 5-14 Days Are The Sweet spot for a Newborn Session?

For a newborn session in my cozy little studio, I recommend scheduling newborns between 5 to 14 days old. Why this window? Newborns are still able to do curly poses and are quite sleepy which can make some advanced poses safest to position. They don’t stay in their newborn form very long before they change to their baby form so this is the best way to capture those dreamy poses that are unique to the newborn stage.

The Sweet Sleepy Stage
Right after your baby is born they start adjusting to the world around them and life on the outside. This is fairly exhausting to them and they spend the first two weeks making that adjustment by snuggling and sleeping. This drowsiness, leftover from their birthing journey, allows me to gently pose them while keeping them calm and cozy. Combined with our prep guide we give all our clients, it’s also why your baby will often snooze peacefully through most of their session.
Naturally Curly Poses
Babies in their first two weeks still love to curl up the way they did in the womb. Their bodies are flexible, and the feel safe in a fetal-like poses. This means I can create stunning, timeless images that celebrate the natural beauty of you newborn.
My Newborn is Over Two Weeks, Can I Still Do A Newborn Session?
Just like every session in our Qualicum Beach based studio, every baby is unique. Some babies have a sleepy period longer than 2 weeks and some babies like to be in their curly newborn stage longer! If they are a few weeks outside of 14 days we can still create beautiful memories but they may include baby awake and with less challenging poses. Be prepared for a more alert baby who may take a little longer to pose but the end results will still be beautiful.
Challenging Pose-
A challenging pose is a pose that requires your baby to be very sleepy, or a pose where we are using or spotter and sometimes both! The younger the baby the more naturally they’ll go into these positions without waking.

Bucket Pose
In this pose the baby should be very sleepy so they are less likely to startle. Weights are used to hold props in this position to creating a safe place for a tired newborn to rest.

Froggy Pose
In This pose baby needs to be asleep and be supported the entire time while editing to remove support is done to achieve the final image

Womb Pose
Just like when they were reaching their limits inside, this squishy pose is best for babies who are still young enough to find this pose comfortable.

The first few weeks fly by and having your session booked on our calendar is one less thing to think about to ensure your earliest days are documented with love, intention and care.
We recommend booking during your second trimester but will sometimes have room to take a newborn in our schedule to take last minute clients. Please contact us if you’re looking to preserve those fleeting newborn details before they fade.
